When Donald Trump won the presidential election, I was relieved the continuity candidate of the most genocidal president in decades, the man who has taken us closer to Word War III than any other, was beaten. This relief was closely followed by the realisation the doomsday clock hasn’t moved back a second, it has at best frozen in place, and that brought a sense of despair. Despair is where I have been for the past week.
The question now is how different will a second Trump presidency be from the first one? And how much different will it be from the Biden presidency? Will things stay exactly the same? Will they continue to decline? Or will there be a sliver of improvement? I think anything is possible, but I’m not expecting cause for celebration.
Let’s first focus on the positive: Trump has at least said a few sensible things. I know that words and actions are very different things, but when was the last time you heard Trump say something sensible? Is he better coached now? Is he just saying what he is thinking will make him popular? Or is there some sincerity? If there is any sincerity, will he be allowed to do what he wants to do? Let’s take a look…
Firstly, there is Iran.
Now there have very much been mixed messages on Iran, and let’s not forget Trump assassinated an Iranian general so he can hardly be trusted, but some of his words have been pretty good. He said Iran cannot be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, but that the US can’t try to control Iran (presumably through regime change). He said he wants Iran to be prosperous as long as it doesn’t get a nuke.
Trump’s election victory made the value of Iran’s currency plummet to a historic low. It’s entirely possible this is what the previous chest-thumping was about, a way of pressuring Iran into compliance. Trump’s talk of Iranian prosperity could be his way of saying you can only be prosperous if you behave. He seemed to be implying a willingness to renew the nuclear deal he previously ripped up. Such a move would no doubt piss off Israel because the last thing Israel wants is stability in the Middle East. Only problem with getting too optimistic is that Trump has cut a deal with so many Zionists to get him into power, it would be hard to stand up to them.
Marco Rubio has just been appointed as Trump’s secretary of state and he is telling us that war with Iran “must be on the table”. Now Trump and Rubio don’t exactly see eye-to-eye and Trump has previously called Rubio every name under the sun. Trump has a habit of bringing people he doesn’t like into his team. Keep your enemies close, I guess…
Rubio is one of the biggest war hawks in the US senate and was fully behind the disastrous interventions in Libya and Syria. He is champing at the bit to lure China into a proxy war with Taiwan, but I doubt it would be possible to support Taiwan while also taking on Iran, right after Gaza and Ukraine. The war machine can only produce so many bombs.
Worryingly, Trump has appointed Zionist warmonger Elise Stefanik as the UN ambassador. She was all in on the Ukraine war so it’s unclear what the plan is here. Is Trump going to be pro-Ukraine war? Or is this simply about making appointments to keep the various factions of his party happy? Some of the weirdos in Trump’s team are so nuts, they’ve spoken about war with Mexico so their anti-war credentials are hardly convincing, but even the biggest warmongers must contend with reality.
I’m sure there will be a concerted effort to push Trump into war with Iran, but this would give the deep state the excuse to assassinate him and blame Iran. Such an accusation would be far more believable if Trump bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities. Starting a war could mean Trump was signing his own death warrant.
For what it’s worth, my guess is Trump has calculated that war with Iran would be counterproductive, primarily due to the damage to the oil industry. To placate the Zionists, he will probably allow Israel to keep going in Gaza and Lebanon until Israeli troops are so exhausted they are in open rebellion. I reckon that’s the only way the genocide ends, but we’re already seeing signs that this is taking place.
The way things are going, Israeli troops might pull the plug on the genocide before Trump is even sworn in, not for any moral reason, but because they can’t keep fighting. If this happens, Trump will take the credit and his supporters will convince themselves he is the anti-war president. It seems so strange that we’re seeing a role reversal where Republicans are pitching themselves as the lesser evil on war, but it’s all optics, or is it? Lets take a closer look…
The other big war the US is backing right now is the one in Ukraine. Worryingly, Trump has selected Mike Waltz as his national security adviser. This is a guy who wants Ukraine to strike deeper into Russian territory, something Democrats were reluctant to allow, due to the obvious risks. The thing is Trump’s supporters are mostly opposed to war with Russia and would not approve of escalation. Would escalation be a red line for them? Or would they blindly support their man anyway?
While centrists fear Trump is about to pull the plug in Ukraine, the anti-war movement is worried about escalation, but – and this is a risky prediction – I think fears of escalation might be ill-founded. I think Trump will probably pull the plug here. I’m going to look so stupid if Ukraine starts bombing Moscow in January, but I don’t expect this to happen. Some of Trump’s team, such as Rubio, have previously voted against military aid for Ukraine. Trump has indicated he would push for a peace deal, cue crocodile tears from everyone who is throwing Ukrainian men into a meat grinder. We can’t just let those brave Ukrainian men go back to their families, can we?
When it comes to Ukraine, we’re hearing all kinds of noises, but even noises from the Democrats are sounding more sane. Some of their analysts are talking of compromise in a way that would have got you called a Putin puppet two years ago. One hypothesis floating around is that the deep state let Trump become president so he could be the offramp. It had become impossible for peace under the Democrats because that would mean agreeing to all the compromises they told us were unacceptable for three years. It would be an admission they sacrificed those brave soldiers and terrified conscripts for no measurable gain, that peace could have been achieved without three years of fighting. It would reveal to the world just how cynical the actions of the military industrial complex have been in Ukraine.
In every other possible situation, the military industrial complex had no credibility left. Its one strategy for keeping the public on side was to lure its enemies into proxy wars and pretend it’s aiding a fight for liberation. It was a way of saying, “See, we’re the good guys really”.
It was a lovely story and one you could believe as long as you switched your brain off and forgot they have lied to us about every other conflict. You would have to ignore how they spent literally years trying to lure Russia into a war in eastern Europe. Countless military and intelligence chiefs, and even Joe Biden, told us this was the plan, but don’t worry because that’s all been memory-holed.
If one good thing came out of the horrific Gaza genocide, it’s that the people who were duped into siding with the military industrial complex are being forced to re-evaluate. The correct position, for anyone who is wondering is: Putin bad. US much, much worse.
We would never have had war in Ukraine if the US hadn’t started selecting Ukrainian leaders and ripping up the Minsk accords. The reason we had Russiagate is the military industrial complex needed the consent of liberals to escalate. The people who oppose every war, apart from the current one, fell for this trick, hook, line and sinker.
Now that Trump is back, Russiagate is suddenly back. I’ve already seen weird freaks suggesting Trump’s victory must be down to Russian meddling, like the US doesn’t try to choose the leader of almost every country on earth. Some self-awareness from liberals would be nice here.
The likelihood of a peace deal in Ukraine has maybe gone up a notch, but I’m not getting carried away. Trump could be persuaded to drag the war out a little longer, but what would be the point? Every credible analyst agrees the war is lost and the US is running low on supplies. It would therefore be counterproductive to continue. This is why I expect a peace agreement within a month or two of Trump taking office.
Liberals, who never gave a fuck about Palestinians, will cry about Ukrainians being “sacrificed” while they’re returning to their families and rebuilding their country. In case you hadn’t noticed, every US intervention ends in a country lying in ruins. I hope I’m wrong here, but it’s possible Ukraine collapses into a failed state controlled by heavily armed neo-Nazis. If this happens, it will not be the fault of Trump, it will be the fault of Democrats, but Trump will get the blame, of course.
If we move way from war for a moment, there is a potentially good thing Trump is talking about: taking on big pharma and the food industry. If there is any sincerity here, this is surely positive, and surprisingly, I think there might be some sincerity. I know you’re probably laughing right now because when is Trump ever sincere, but hear me out.
It’s logical for people to want fewer chemicals in their food and to want the pharmaceutical industry to behave ethically: malpractice hurts everyone. An establishment president could never take on these powerful industries, and while I don’t think Trump is anywhere near the anti-establishment guy his supporters think he is, I think there might be just enough distance here.
One thing that undermines my point is Trump has chosen a big pharma lobbyist called Susie Wiles as the White House chief of staff, but we fully expect Trump’s appointments to be awful. He is a Republican after all. The flip side is Republicans are furious about Covid lockdowns and vaccine mandates and want revenge.
Trump cut a deal with RFK jr to get him into his administration and absorb his supporters, and he has to keep them on side. Say what you want about RFK jr, but he comes from a principled place. You don’t have to agree with everything the man says to see that he is passionate about taking on powerful interest groups. He has built a career around doing just that.
RFK jr has attracted criticism for his stance on vaccines, but I say as a (mostly) pro-vaccine person there are valid concerns here. The level of censorship we’ve seen over vaccines is insane. Social media companies have admitted to factual information being suppressed, due to pressure from the Democrats.
When it comes to medicine, suppression of the risks and side-effects is so obviously unethical because it denies you the ability to make an informed decision. This is a clear indication that big pharma has become far too powerful. There are, of course, a million other indications, such as how it massively inflates prices at the expense of human lives and how it socialises costs and privatises profits.
Anyone who is prepared to stand up to big pharma is someone we should play close attention to. Big pharma is certainly concerned by RFK jr’s plans. The top five CEOs held an emergency meeting because they are in a state of panic as their stocks plummet. This is because RFK jr plans to overhaul the FDA and CDC, something that would improve public health and hurt profits.
The fact companies are having emergency meetings so they can keep harming your health to make more money is all the evidence you need that private healthcare is evil, but one thing that will not be happening is universal healthcare. As capitalists, Trump and RFK jr would see that as a bridge too far, but this doesn’t mean smaller victories can’t happen.
RFK jr posted on Twitter:
President Trump has asked me to do three things: 1. Clean up the corruption in our government health agencies. 2. Return those agencies to their rich tradition of gold-standard, evidence-based science. 3. Make America Healthy Again by ending the chronic disease epidemic.
One thing RFK jr is keen on is reducing the number of chemicals in food, pointing out that a product in the US might have 27 chemicals as opposed to 4 in Canada because regulators simply aren’t doing their job. Malpractice in the food industry is one of the biggest reasons for the chronic disease epidemic in the US. RFK jr points out “We have 1000 chemicals in our food that are illegal in Europe.”
RFK jr reckons he can reduce childhood illness by 50% in four years, and while I think that is far too optimistic, there is little doubt that better regulation would improve health. It seems weird that Republicans are the ones talking about better regulation, but nothing about politics makes sense anymore. The question is will RFK jr do a good job, or will he be defeated by big pharma and the food poisoning industry? Only time will tell.
Nothing I’ve written here is intended to be an endorsement of the coming Trump administration. While I think it’s possible Trump could be an improvement on the Democrats in some respects, I’ve no doubt he will find other ways to be worse.
In most respects a Trump administration won’t be a lesser evil, just a different form of evil. However, if RFK jr even partly cleans up food and medicine, and if Trump is marginally less hawkish than Biden, we will be in a very strange world. A world where the Democrats are to the right of the Republicans. Just don’t discount the possibility that Trump goes nuts, starts war with Iran and collapses the global economy. Anything is possible and the only thing we can say about Trump is that he is unpredictable.
